Ruairiadh O'Connell - Six Play Image
BISCHOFF/WEISS is pleased to present Six Play, a solo exhibition of new work by Ruairiadh O'Connell.

Ruairiadh O'Connell's work fuses objects and moments, creating new associations that lead the viewer to reconsider the environment in which they find themselves. These objects play off each other to create a universal language, which we are already familiar with and at the same time, have established their own referential dialogue.

For Six Play, O'Connell has created six paintings that try to sustain the impermanence of a fleeting glimpse. Originally found photographs of women's black silk stockings, O'Connell has isolated and expanded certain areas of these images, creating abstract markings onto aluminium sheeting.

These imprints are transformed into floating flashes similar to a burn on the retina, a photochemical injury. A moment of perverse joy.

Ruairiadh O'Connell was born in 1983 and is currently undertaking an MA at Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste, in Frankfurt, Germany. Previous exhibitions include Something Blue, A Curiosa of Contemporary Erotica, Landings Project Space, Vestfossen, Norway, 2010, Peek-a-boo, Projekt-Display, Frankfurter Kunstverein, Frankfurt, 2009, Sorry I can't Stay To Do The Dishes, Andrea Rosen Gallery (Project space), New York, 2008, Writing Objects, Art:Concept, Paris, 2008, You would never leave me would you?, BISCHOFF/WEISS, London, 2008.
