Maya Hewitt at Misako & Rosen, Tokyo

22 Jun - 19 Jul 2009
Opening : June 22, 6 - 10pm

MISAKO & ROSEN is pleased to announce its Summer group exhibition Gebageba summer show - gebageba 4 weeks. The show will consider the position of contemporary art practice and culture within society at large. Geba Geba is derived from the German word gewalt. This expression came into use during the Japanese student radical movement of the 1960's and suggested an anti-establishment attitude.

The word took on a wider, more popular usage following its inclusion in the title of Kyosen Ohashi and Takehiko Maeda's television program, Kyosen to Maetake no Geba Geba 90 pun (Kyosen and Maetake's Geba Geba 90 minutes). The exhibition title, Geba Geba Summer Show is meant to suggest rather than the employment of force, the presentation of art. The exhibition will include an improvised installation of works on paper and film by an international group of more than 25 artists.
